THE OBSERVER | CONTACT SHEET SERIES

WINDOWS OF TIME

About the Series

The Observer: Windows of Time comes from the perspective of someone who grew up between two worlds, an analog childhood and a digital adulthood. As a Xennial, I experienced photography first through my father’s darkroom at home, where he developed black and white film for magazines. I saw countless contact sheets, watched them come to life in trays, and understood photography through that physical, tactile process.

Today, I document my life through a cellphone, the tool of our time. I’ve always loved the honesty and texture of traditional black and white photography, but I also value the accessibility and spontaneity of digital images. I don’t see cellphone photography as lesser; I see it as an evolution of how we record our lives.

This series merges those two realities.
Each sheet uses the familiar digital camera interface but is arranged with the structure and rhythm of analog contact sheets. It’s a way of preserving everyday moments while honoring the visual language I grew up with.

The Observer: Windows of Time is both a bridge and a record, a reflection on how technology has shifted our tools, but not our instinct to observe, capture, and remember.
